T.I. Summoned To Appear In Court Following Drug Arrest; Cancels Penn State Performance

T.I. will have to explain why he should remain a free man following his arrest for drug possession in Los Angeles earlier this month.
He has been summoned to appear court in his native Atlanta, Georgia.

The often-incarcerated rapper, 29, and his wife, former Xscape singer Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (AKA “BET’s Prized Piglet”), were taken into custody in West Hollywood after a sheriff’s deputy allegedly smelled marijuana smoke coming from their vehicle during a traffic stop. They were booked for felony possession of a controlled substance and bailed.
Tip had a large number of drugs in his system at the time of his arrest, according to documents obtained by E! Online. A report issued by the rapper’s parole officer shows that T.I. had codeine, marijuana and opiates in his system. This is in addition to the Ecstasy that he was originally charged with possessing when he was arrested.
“We are very disappointed in Mr. Harris’ recent conduct. We will make our sentencing recommendation at the [probation] revocation hearing,” US Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in a statement issued to the media last week.
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., could be sent back to prison for the drug violations. He is on probation for a gun charge that put him in prison for seven months in late 2009. The star’s probation officer has also signed the summons, and lists three possible violations for Harris — including drugs possession, testing positive for opiates, and association with a felon.
No date has been set for the hearing.
His ongoing legal issues have forced T.I. to cancel a highly anticipated upcoming show next weekend in Pennsylvania.
The “Rubberband Man” singer supposed to his the stage at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center on Friday, Sept. 24, but organizers have announced the show has been unexpectedly canceled. Fans can getrefunds from their point of purchase — credit card holders will automatically be reimbursed for their purchases.
